Note: This song makes fun of an incident November 1, 2020, in which a reporter surprised King Vajiralongkorn by directly walking up to him (while other were bowing on the ground) and getting an interview. From a Coconuts Bangkok article: “The king was outside the Grand Palace when a Channel 4 and CNN news team asked him about the ongoing protests and calls for royal reform. After initially saying ‘no comment,’ the monarch repeated, ‘We love them all the same’ three times. Asked if there was room to compromise with the protesters, the king replied, ‘Thailand is the land of compromise.’” You can see the official translation by clicking on the “cc” button on the official YouTube (and changing your settings to English if necessary).
I actually contributed to this translation, and the result is great, but one important nuance may be lost in the translation. The words translated “daring” and “crafty” here usually have a very positive connotation like “brave” and “talented,” such that the title I think should be, “Very Brave! Very Talented [Great Job]! Thank You!” Then these expectations are immediately overturned. As in “Very brave/daring of you to do me like this!” “You are were so talented/crafty at fooling me!”
I just realized, looking at the official translation that “Move Forward” is in capital letters. This is in the line “I wanted our future to ‘Move Forward’,” and so is a reference to the progressive prodemocracy Future Forward Party, which was banned by the dictatorship and had to change it’s name to the “Move Forward Party.”
