“Song of the Commoner” ENGLISH VERSION for Pai Daodin

Note: Here is an English Version of “Song of the Commoner” that I made for Pai Daodin (real name: Jatuphat Boonphatthararaksa), a young man (25) just for SHARING A BBC NEWS ARTICLE about the new king of Thailand, King Vajiralongkorn. He faces a possible sentence of 3 to 15 years for lese majesty (insulting royalty) for sharing the Thai version of THIS BBC NEWS ARTICLE on facebook. Many international human rights organizations support Pai Daodin in this case, and are protesting to the Thai government. The list of organizations calling for the release of Pai Daodin include: Human Rights Watch, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, the Thai Alliance for Human Rights, Asian Human Rights Commission, Scholars at Risk Network, and Thai Lawyers for Human Rights. The Thai version of this song is being used in Thai protests for Pai Daodin. Please spread the word.

Can I run across someone who dreams, still dreams the way I do?
If you also dream, if that’s still true, then here’s a song for you

On this road we’ve chose to walk along, we see things that aren’t nice
More than one once or twice. Don’t give up! We can stay strong!

As the wind it blows your dreams apart, stirring dust inside your cell
When you’re feeling cold, alone, unwell, please hear us and take heart

I want to hear you all sing out our song, this “Song of Common Folk”
Awaken hope. Imagine our new day.
